Gladiator

This week I read  "Gladiator" by Dewy Gram. At the end of the 2nd century, Roman general Maximus was sought after by the emperor Marcus Aurelius after winning the war with the Germans.  Maximus refused, but he was jealous of Prince Commodorus, and his wife and children in his hometown were slaughtered.   Maximus becomes a slave, bought by Proximo in Morocco and trained as a Gladiator.   Maximus returns to the Colosseum in Rome, where he confronts Emperor Commodorus.  No matter how big the power or the high rank, the support of the people is the most important in Rome. The story was easy to understand, and I was very moved at the end.   It has been made into a movie and is a very popular work.   I want you to read it. The Thirty-Nine Steps

This week I read "The Thirty-Nine Steps" by John Buchan.  Immediately after returning home, diplomat Richard Hannay was caught in a murder case unexpectedly.  Departing from the police and spy organizations, he travels to Scotland, relying on the word "Thirty-Nine Stairs" left by the killed Scudder.   It is a suspense novel.  The protagonist on the way back to Africa, who is adventurous, is involved in the incident.  A man who knows a conspiracy that might develop into a war asks for help.  However, the man is killed by leaving an encrypted memo in his black notebook.  The protagonist is also targeted, and he goes on an escape while being suspected of killing the man.  And the trials await. I honestly felt boring.  I think there are few mystery factors.  The times were too old for me to imagine. STARGATE

イメージ
This week I read “STARGATE” by Sheila Black.      The ringed ruins, discovered in Giza, Egypt in 1928, were secretly under the control of the US Army 60 years later.  Archaeologist Daniel Jackson works with the army to unravel the mystery of the ring ruins. It was Stargate.  And Daniel and Colonel O'Neil go into Stargate to investigate.  The desert extends beyond Stargate, and we met strange creatures and people.  Also, a huge pyramid will begin to move and be caught by future people in it.  Daniels overcome many difficulties and return to the original world. They encounter great difficulties on the land they went to investigate.  There are many troubles such as being attacked by strange people, being chased by creatures, and trying to solve it with friends.  The situation was so hard that he taught me the importance of not giving up. This story is hard to imagine.  There were many science fiction-like elements, so it was difficult to understand if you were not used to

Rosa Raye, Crime Reporter

イメージ
This week I read "Rosa Rate, Crime Reporter" by Sue Kerman.      Rosa Raye is a crime repoeter for a newaspaper. On her way to work one morning, Rosa sees a man throwing something from a big truck into the sea. She was suspicious and when she began investigating the matter, she realized that there was a large criminal organization in the town. She continues her job despite being in danger. She confronted fear.  I don't have anything scary in my daily life, but I respect someone like her who can do my job with passion.  I haven't found what I want or want to be in the future.  I find it most fun to be able to do what I like, but sometimes it doesn't work.  At that time, it is necessary to adapt myself to my work.  I want to do a job that I can be passionate about in the future. I want you to recommend this because its story is easy to understand. She defends herself and her lover while fighting difficulties.  The action is very brave. *ROSA

FAR FROM THE MADDING CROWD

This week I read FAR FROM THE MADDING CROWD by Thomas Hardy. The farm hostess Bathsheba Everdene was young, beautiful, self-reliant and did not think she needed marriage.  However, she can not resist the power of love and marries a man.  This story set in 19th century South England. Everdene is solicited by three men to overcome various difficulties and learn true love. I want to introduce some quotes from this book. First one is “ They spoke very little of their mutual feeling; pretty phrases and warm expressions being probably unnecessary between such tried friends.“ I also sympathized with this sentence.  Only true friends can understand each other. Second one is “  Love is a possible strength in an actual weakness “ I can’t understand this meaning.  Does love mean strength in weakness? Or is love the energy that makes you really strong when you are weak? This story has many sad points, but I think it will enrich your life, so I would like to recommend it to you.
